Blossom Guides Promise Night

Last night Ruby made her Guide promise.  She made her Rainbows promise about a year ago in Scotland and it was her absolute favourite activity – her number one priority on arriving in Australia was to find a similar group over here.  After one false start we found a really lovely group in Bacchus Marsh about 15 minutes down the road.

The girls are all great and took Ruby to their hearts straight away.  I offered to help as a leader and now we are in full guiding swing!

People tend to have a strange view of Girl Guides – that it is somehow a lesser pursuit, the realm of goody-two-shoes or boring, geeky girls.  In my experience that couldn’t be further from the truth!  All the girls in our group are fun, sparky little girls.  They are dynamic and imaginative, they are active and interesting – they are the sort of girls we need more of in the world, not more stroppy, sullen madams!

I am so glad that Ruby loves Guides so much and I hope that she will stick with it for years to come, for now though, here was her promise night in pictures …

Ruby is presented by other patrol members.

Making her promise in a clear, loud voice.  She had been practising hard and took it all so seriously.

As assistant leader, I got to pin on Ruby’s World Guide badge – quite a special moment for me!
